As the terrible aftermath of Hurricane Harvey becomes more apparent, Athena asked me what we can do to help. I admit that my first thought was somewhat frustrated feeling that there isn't much we can do from so far away. But then it came to me quickly, our military brothers and sisters of Team Rubicon are already on this.
The Sox Box is partnered with Team Rubicon as a member of our Veteran Alliance and are honored to have done so then as much as we are now. Team Rubicon is a military veteran and first responder organization whose mission is to unite the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams.
The team is currently deploying rescue teams (as this is still a rescue operation) once the waters recede to a safe level they will be deploying volunteers and resources to help the affected communities recover. I've linked their site where you can make a direct donation and contribution to the recovery efforts underway from Team Rubicon.
Our goal:
Bring community awareness of the current situation in Houston so that our online community can rise up to help. Athena and I are knitting 500 pair of socks for distribution to displaced community members in need.
Additionally, for an indefinite time period, The Sox Box will allocate all profits from sale of Team Rubicon socks on our website to go directly to the Team Rubicon community in support of their rescue and recovery efforts.
